How often should you clean an area rug?

For most homes, a professional rug clean every 12–18 months keeps it looking good and protects the fibres — sooner for high-traffic areas, pets, or allergies. Regular vacuuming between cleans helps a lot. Pet accidents and spills should be treated right away to avoid permanent staining and odour.
